Washington's economic base has always been heavily dependent on agriculture. In recent years there has been an increasingly sound balance between agriculture and industry. More than 200 substantial industries are located in and around the city. Wood products, apparel, dyeing and finishing, fiberglass, plastics, paper products, thread, and dairy products are the basis for local manufacturing. Forest products, poultry, dairy, and beef cattle are important aspects of the county's agricultural economy.
