"Is that D.C. or state?" is a typical response a citizen
of Washington, Georgia, receives after stating the
name of his or her hometown as simply
"Washington." The answer, of course, is neither!
Washington is the county seat of Wilkes County and
is located in the state of Georgia, one of the original
13 colonies.
